CHESAPEAKE CITY — An investigation is continuing after a Sunday night fire destroyed a Chesapeake City barn, causing an estimated $10,000 in damages, according to the Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal.

At 8:14 p.m. Sunday evening, a passerby called 911 to report the barn fire, located at 415 Lock Street in Chesapeake City, which prompted local fire companies to respond. Chesapeake City Volunteer Fire Company served as the primary responders and on-scene command unit, fire officials said.

Approximately 45 firefighters battled the one-alarm blaze for 90 minutes before bringing it under control, MOSFM reported.

No one was injured by the fire, according to the MOSFM report, which listed the estimated damages to the barn to be $10,000.

MOSFM detectives conducted an on-scene investigation, determining that the blaze originated in the barn’s interior. However, as of Tuesday evening, the investigation remained ongoing and detectives were still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.

Anyone with information regarding the fire is encouraged to contact the MOSFM Northeast Regional Office Tipline 410-386-3050.
