Ekoue earns WIAC Field Performer of the Meet honors
MADISON — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Yakob Ekoue (Sr. — Hopkins, Minnesota was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Field Performer of the Meet for the 2024 WIAC Outdoor Championships. The WIAC announced the award winners Friday afternoon, with Ekoue earning the distinction for the second consecutive season. Ekoue won the discus at the WIAC championship with a heave of 173-6 (52.89m) and added a second-place finish in the hammer throw and third-place standing in the shot put. Ekoue was also the Field Performer of the Meet at this season’s WIAC Indoor Championships and won a national championship in the shot put during the indoor season. The Blugolds are set to compete in a few last-chance qualifiers over the next couple of weeks before heading to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the NCAA Outdoor Championships from May 23-25.
