Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young shared a heartfelt moment with an injured reporter during the team’s first full day of voluntary workouts.

After stepping up to the podium for his session with members of the media on Monday, Young noticed that The Charlotte Observer’s Mike Kaye was donning a cast and sling around his arm. The 22-year-old immediately asked what happened and if he was all right.

Kaye divulged that he suffered a broken arm after tripping over a garden enclosure while on his way to cover the Senior Bowl, additionally telling Young that he was set to undergo surgery the next day.

“I’m sorry to hear that.” Young responded, later adding: “I’ll be praying for you.”

Taking to X, Kaye shared a clip of the interaction alongside the message: “Bryce is a mensch. Thanks for all the well wishes.” Fans online swiftly praised the second-year signal-caller for the thoughtful gesture. “Look at Bryce man inspirational,” one fan wrote, with another adding: “I really hope he is the franchise QB, seems like a great human being.”

Young has already shown signs of improvement this offseason following a brutal rookie campaign last year. Over 16 games, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft completed 315-of-527 passes for 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. His 33.4 Total QBR ranked 29th out of 30 qualified quarterbacks, while his 59.8% completion percentage was the 33rd best in the NFL .

Looking to build a better support system around Young, the Panthers hired Dave Canales as their new head coach in January. Carolina then added several new offensive targets for the quarterback, acquiring wide receiver Diontae Johnson in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers and moving into the first round of the draft to select wideout Xavier Legette No. 32 overall.

Discussing Young’s adoption of the Panthers’ new offense and playbook, Canales told reporters: "He's doing fantastic with it. So, for us the formations are pretty vanilla so we can just teach the concept we want out of each route, the depth, the footwork we want. As I expect him to do, he's really mastered that part of it."

"Deep balls, short, intermediate, he's a really accurate passer," he added. "One of the things I really love is I can really focus on the footwork, his base and the mechanics of where his eyes are at when I know the ball is hitting the receivers."

Though Canales has only been with the organization for several months, he’s already made a positive impression on Young. "Really, it's the consistency he has. He has a very calming presence," Young said of his coach. "He's someone you can have a conversation with, talk with. Good, bad or indifferent, you can tell there's an emphasis on teaching. At times, of course, we're passionate. With coaches there's a lot of yelling, a lot of emotion.”
