One of the first restaurants at Bowl at Ballantyne will debut this month.

Flower Child will open its second fast-casual store in the Carolinas on May 21 at 15210 Bowl St . in south Charlotte.

In 2019, the Phoenix-based chain opened its first location in the Carolinas at 1537 Camden Road in South End.

“We’re building on success from other stores and love all of the development happening in Ballantyne ,” Sam Fox, founder of Fox Restaurant Concepts including Flower Child, told The Charlotte Observer on Wednesday. “We like to cluster our restaurants.”

Bowl at Ballantyne is a 20-acre project featuring more than 90,000 square feet of retail, a second apartment tower and new roads with a “Main Street” feel.

“It’s a great area with a concert venue,” Fox said.

    The Space

Flower Child’s 3,555-square-foot Ballantyne restaurant will have a similar vibe to South End with bright, colorful decor, and fresh flowers and plants.

There also is patio seating for up to 50 people, Fox said.

Flower Child will hire about 60 full- and part-time employees. Hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.

    The food

Flower Child offers a plant-forward, gluten-light menu with customizable bowls, wraps and salads, plus mix and match vegetables, grains, fruits and clean proteins.

Dishes start out vegan or vegetarian, and customers can choose to add chicken, steak, salmon, shrimp or tofu.

“We make everything in-house,” Fox said. “People want to grab a healthy meal in short time.”

The menu changes six times a year with seasonal dishes, Fox said, such as the Peruvian Chicken.

The menu also caters to special diets, including paleo and gluten-free.

Fox said some of his favorite dishes are:

    ▪ Mother Earth Bowl, grains, sweet potato, portobello mushroom, avocado, cucumber, broccoli pesto, charred onion, leafy greens, red pepper miso vinaigrette, hemp seed.

    ▪ Flying Avocado Wrap, smoked turkey, gouda, romaine, tomato and avocado hummus.

    ▪ Chicken Yakisoba Noodles, grilled chicken thigh, wok seared vegetables, sesame garlic sauce, roasted cashew.

“We eat there three times a week because there’s so much diversity within the menu, and that’s what I love about it,” Fox said.

Take-out, including curbside pick-up, and delivery will be available.
