CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A 4-year-old child was hurt Sunday night in an accidental shooting, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

Officers were called to Atrium Health University City on North Tryon Street just before 9 p.m. on Sunday, April 28.

Hospital staff told officers that a 4-year-old child arrived to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand, officials say. The child’s injuries were non-life threatening.

Authorities believe the child was accidentally shot with an unsecured gun at a home on Wheatside Drive. The child’s father then took the 4-year-old to the hospital.

Charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
