It's the end of an era for one prominent spot in Uptown Charlotte. A new cocktail lounge called Palace on 4th will open in the former Green's Lunch spot.

Why it matters: Green's, founded in 1926, was Charlotte's oldest restaurant until it closed last June.

  • A low-cost option in a city full of national chains, Green's was a longtime favorite of everyone from bankers to construction crews.

Driving the news: The Green's Lunch mural was recently painted over and replaced with a new one by local artist Swych19 .

  • In addition to the new mural at 309 W. 4 St ., we noticed signage up for Palace on 4th, a new upscale cocktail bar and lounge opening soon.

Context: Green's owners decided to sell their Uptown building steps away from Truist Field and Romare Bearden Park in late 2022.

  • The restaurant opened in 1926 and was run by the same family since 1975 .

What to expect: Palace on 4th will serve craft cocktails and specialty hookah flavors, according to its Instagram .

  • Signage on its door indicates it'll be open 12pm-2am, catering to Uptown's late-night crowd .
  • A Palace on 4th spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.
