Scoop: Skiptown dog park and bar to open another location near NoDa

    By Alexis Clinton,

    2024-04-18

Skiptown will open its second Charlotte location in 2025.

Why it matters: Skiptown has become a popular destination for dog owners to both hang out and take their pets for boarding and grooming since it opened in Rampart Street in 2020.

    • Founder Meggie Williams hopes the new location of the sprawling indoor/outdoor dog park and bar will also become a co-working option for owners to work remotely while their pups play.

Context: The park opened its first location during the pandemic, when pet adoption rates soared and people worked from home. Many folks have returned to the office , but Williams hopes to target those hybrid workers who want to spend the day with their dogs.

    • "We know there's a demand based on the success of the South End location. We also know the dilemma of being a pet parent and having to work," Williams said.

The vibe: At nearly 50,000 square feet, the new Skiptown will be double the size of the OG South End location. Dogs can enjoy about 25,000 square feet of outdoor space, which includes private play yards.

    • Owners will find a larger indoor and outdoor bar area with plenty of seating.
    • It'll also have an extended coffee (and cocktail) menu for those looking to work while their dog plays.

What to expect: The same services that Skiptown's known for, from grooming to daycare, but with earlier hours.

    • Hours have not been set but Williams says they plan to open as early as 8am.
    • Members can take advantage of services like boarding, training, daycare and grooming at both locations.

What's next: The exact address has not been announced. It'll open in the NoDa area by the end of next year.

    • A Skiptown in Denver is in the works, with plans to open in late August or September, Axios' Alayna Alvarez recently reported .
    • A third location is in the works in Atlanta.
