Charleston Police Department officers promoted in ceremony

CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Members of the Charleston Police Department on Wednesday were joined by Mayor Goodwin for a promotion ceremony.

Chief Dempsey, Major Webb, and Mayor Goodwin led the promotion ceremony which honored four officers with the Charleston PD for their efforts.

Steven “Matt” Webb was promoted to Captain during the ceremony. Webb has served with the Charleston Police Department for 25 yeara, and was recently was the commander of C-Shift. Webb will reportedly be the Bureau Chief of the Community Policing Bureau.

Kevin Oldham, who has served with the department for nearly two decades, was also promoted to Lieutenant during the ceremony. Lieutenant Oldham served as the traffic division commander for five years and will now begin work as a shift commander in patrol.

Travis Bailes received a promotion to Sergeant, and has served with the Charleston Police Department for nearly a decade. Having served in the Special Enforcement Unit and having spent five years assigned to Capital High School, Sgt. Bailes will now act as a District Commander for the East End.

Opie Smith III was promoted to Corporal for his efforts with the department. Having served for five years, Cpl. Smith has spent time in patrol, and is a Detective with the department currently.
