Champlin Park boys lacrosse hosted the Breck School last week in an 18-4 Rebels win on May 10 as both teams neared the end of the regular season.

Champlin Park ended the week with a 3-2 Northwest Suburban record, 6-3 overall, while Breck ended last week with a 0-3 Independent Metro Athletic conference record, 1-8 overall.

The Rebels’ dominant win over Breck started with a strong first half, eventually leading 9-2 at halftime. When the action restarted in the third quarter, Champlin Park still had its foot on the gas pedal.

Ethan Rude, Brayden Strausser and Jaiden Svoboda continued strong performances with early goals, extending the lead to 12-2. Breck responded with a goal from Max Snyder, their best-attacking outlet on the day.

Hopes of a comeback were stamped out by two goals for Gavin Bosch amid a powerful night on the attack. A low-slicing shot by Samuel Jiracek and a last-minute shot from Benjamin Verlo made it 16-3 for Champlin Park.

Bosch continued to thrive with one more goal in the fourth quarter, while Jared Zabel scored Champlin Park’s final goal of the day. Snyder scored one more for Breck, completing his hat trick to make it 18-4. Snyder’s three goals were complemented by a goal for Aaron Weiss in the first half and one assist each from Chase Wilkinson and Ian Grussing.

Following the win over Breck, Champlin Park head coach Nicholas Flaschenriem said the team has grown in confidence with each win, hitting a positive stride in recent weeks when it comes to communicating and understanding the offense.

“The players are doing really well with getting syncing up with our offense,” Flaschenriem said. “We’ve been gaining momentum in that direction since our Andover game, so we’re just trying to build on that success. I think everyone’s buying into working hard and that’s having a positive effect.”

Flaschenriem noted there are still areas the team has to work on to be prepared for the section tournament, focusing on the foundations of the game in order to be able to take on more complex ideas and challenges.

“We continue to work on communicating defensively, keeping our feet moving with the ball,” he said. “We’re just focusing on those fundamental things. We want to maintain a focus on the fundamentals so that we can then play a more advanced offense and defense.”

Gavin Bosch led the way with eight goals for Champlin Park, while Strausser added four goals and one assist. Matthew Berge scored one goal and provided three assists. Radmacher Jackson, Austin Johnson, Ethan Sevald scored one goal each in that win.

Champlin Park boys lacrosse will play two games the following week, hosting Elk River/Zimmerman and Providence Academy on May 13 (after this edition went to press) and Thursday, May 16, respectively.

Breck boys lacrosse will play two games the following week, traveling to Armstrong and TrIMAC on Wednesday, May 15, and Saturday, May 18.
