Champlin Park girls lacrosse continued an impressive spring last week, picking up two conference wins to improve their Northwest Suburban record to 6-0, 9-0 overall this season.

Champlin Park has truly dominated so far this season. The tea entered last week riding a seven-game winning streak. They made it eight games with a 16-1 win over Spring Lake Park on May 6.

Reese Hagenbart scored a hat trick in the win, while Annabelle Johnson, Lauren Schindlbeck and Miley Jiracek all scored two each. Alissa Majkozak, Kim Phan, Alayna Roehl, Ella Engstrom, Aubrey Onchiri, Rachel Cottingham and Carisa Gunderson scored one goal each against Spring Lake Park.

The win on Monday set up a blockbuster meeting on May 8 between the Rebels and Centennial. The Cougars arrived on Wednesday with a similarly impressive 5-0 conference record, 6-1 overall, and had poised themselves as one of Champlin Park’s competitors for the conference title for yet another year.

The night started with a brief obstacle after Centennial opened the scoring through a penalty shot in the first minute. Champlin Park kicked things into gear and found a quick response, scoring five goals in the first quarter. Jiracek rounded the net and made a quick pass to Cally Gunderson, who scored the tying goal before Schnidlbeck gave the Rebels their first lead with a penalty shot.

Roehl extended the lead with a goal after the two teams skirmished for several minutes without resolution. Engstrom and Reese Hagenbart then added one goal each to make it 5-1 at the first break.

Hagenbart scored her second goal of the day less than two minutes into the second quarter, starting a dominant run for Champlin Park. She scored a second soon after to complete a hat trick before Engstrom and Johnson scored goals to make it 9-1 at halftime.

Hagenbart continued an impressive night with two goals in the third quarter, proving to be too much for the Cougars to contain through both physical and tactical prowess. Engstrom completed a hat trick in the third quarter, while Jiracek and Johnson each grabbed their second goal of the game.

Schindlbeck, Anna Pitzen and Hagenbart all picked up goals in the fourth quarter, finishing off their challenger for the day with a decisive 17-1 victory.

Hagenbart ended the day with five goals and one assist. Engstrom had three goals and two assists, while Schindlbreck had two goals and three assists. Johnson had two of each, while Jiracek had two goals and one assist.

Champlin Park girls lacrosse will play three games the following week, traveling to Elk River/Zimmerman on May 13 (after this edition went to press), before hosting Breck and Blake on Wednesday, May 15, and Saturday, May 18, respectively.
