CHAMPAIGN — A noise-abatement wall panel along Interstate 74 in Champaign that was damaged last month when a car left the highway will be replaced before the work is complete.

The panel was damaged when a silver sedan that was heading east on I-74 on April 18 left the road and hit it, said Kensil Garnett, an engineer in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Region 3. The panel is near Bloomington Road and Melinda Avenue.

IDOT, the Illinois State Police and Champaign police responded, and the wall’s contractor is aware of the damage. The panel will be replaced prior to the completion of the wall, Garnett said.
