First Neches River Rendezvous in 5 years canceled due to unsafe conditions
DEEP EAST TEXAS, Texas (KTRE) - The 24th annual Neches River Rendezvous, which was set for May 18, was canceled Tuesday due to unsafe conditions. The event, a “family-friendly 10-mile paddling adventure down the Neches River,” was first held in 1997 and previously hosted by the Lufkin/Angelina Chamber of Commerce. This year’s iteration, now hosted by the Angelina & Neches River Authority (ANRA), was to be the first held since 2018 after setbacks including the COVID-19 pandemic stalled the annual plans.
