Mastic Man Shoots Friend To Death Through Car Window, DA Says
James Brown, age 43, of Mastic, was arraigned on murder and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Tuesday, Nov. 28, in the death of Umar Elquhir. Several people called 911 on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 7, after Elquhir was found unresponsive lying on the ground outside Brown’s home in the Poospatuck Reservation in Mastic.
Moriches Resident Indicted for Mastic Shooting Resulting in Death
James Brown, 43, from Moriches, is facing second-degree murder charges in Suffolk County, New York. The charges are related to an incident where Brown is accused of shooting Umar Elquhir, resulting in Elquhir's death. Suffolk County District Attorney, Raymond A. Tierney, commended the Suffolk County Police Department for their work on the case.
Medford man charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance

Cops: Two juveniles arrested for assaulting homeless man
Two juveniles have been arrested after allegedly assaulting a homeless man near TJ Maxx in Riverhead, according to Riverhead Police. Police said they received an anonymous complaint on Nov. 10 at 6:16 p.m. about a group of four to five juveniles that appeared to be in a dispute with a homeless man. When police arrived, they found the man with injuries to his face, police said in a press release. The man reported being asleep when he was struck in the head by unknown subjects, police said. The man was transported to the Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, police said.
