In the three months since opening in Bayport, the folks at the new People’s Pub have been quietly curating the property’s outdoors in anticipation of the warmer months. And this Memorial Day weekend, owners Linda Ringhouse and Peter Cotter are getting set to unveil what they’re calling the Pub Garden, replete with shaded pergola, a custom-built outdoor bar, fire pit area and plenty of benches and wine barrel seating for groups and couples alike.

Rack for kayak, canoe and paddleboard storage available at South Jamesport Beach
Riverhead residents will soon be able to rent space to store their kayaks, paddleboards and small sailboat hulls at South Jamesport Beach during this year’s boating season. Rack space will be granted on a first come, first serve basis this year, and applications will launch soon, according to Recreation Superintendent Ray Coyne. Residents and taxpayers will be able to rent one of 12 rack spaces at the beach for $150; the rental will last from May 25 to Oct. 15.

East Patchogue Man Arrested for Assaulting Elderly in Commack Parking Lot
Suffolk County Police today arrested an East Patchogue man for assaulting an elderly man in a Commack parking lot last week. Robert Whittaker was panhandling for money in a parking lot, located at of 10 Garet Place, on May 7 when he pushed a 79-year-old man at approximately 3:45 p.m. The victim suffered minor injuries. Following an investigation by the Fourth Precinct Crime Section, officers responded to a 911 call reporting Whittaker was on East Main Street in Bay Shore today at 4:13 p.m.
State grant fully funds body-worn cameras for Riverhead Police Department
The Riverhead Police Department has been awarded a state technology grant of more than $1.47 million to cover the cost of body-worn cameras for officers. Riverhead’s grant funding was part of $127 million to Long Island police departments and sheriffs’ offices announced this morning by Gov. Kathy Hochul.

Suffolk DA: Two Defendants Indicted For String Of Gunpoint Robberies Across Long Island

Tierney today announced that Josue Bedell, Jr., 22, of Mastic, and Christian Anderson, 24, of Shirley, were indicted on multiple counts of armed robbery and conspiracy, related to four gunpoint robberies of gas stations/convenience stores that were all hit in one night in December 2023.
