Stonehill College wins grant to train Cape Cod teachers
Stonehill College has received a $1,106,348 federal grant to expand special education teacher training and credentials on Cape Cod and the Islands. The U.S. Department of Education awarded the grant for Project CAPE, or Credentialing, Advancing, and Preparing Educators in Special Education, according to a community announcement. Stonehill Associate Vice President and Dean of Graduate & Professional Studies Elizabeth Stringer Keefe and Director of Graduate Teacher Education Rebekah Louis secured the funding. The project will support 24 prospective teachers with tuition and other assistance as they pursue Massachusetts special education licensure, a Master of Education degree or both. Another 20 early-career Cape Cod teachers will receive support to earn the Massachusetts Autism Endorsement through a 15- to 18-credit graduate certificate. Project CAPE will also examine factors affecting recruitment and retention of special educators on Cape Cod and the Islands, with a focus on preparing and sustaining teacher workforces in rural, geographically isolated and island communities. “We are honored to receive this grant, which is an endorsement of the excellence that students can expect when they choose Stonehill,” Stringer Keefe said. “Over the past several years, the College has expanded its presence on the Cape, investing significant time and resources to

Boston Teachers Union Statement on November 2026 School Closure Proposals
The Boston Teachers Union believes that every student in Boston deserves a school that inspires learning, nurtures their growth, and gives them the strongest possible foundation for the future. Decisions about our school buildings must put the voices of educators, students, and families at the center. Furthermore, we demand that more time be allowed before the school committee vote. To hold a vote of the School Committee less than a month after the recommendation is submitted in the midst of the holiday season is no way to allow for a school community to respond to the devastating news of their closure.

UMass Boston cannot claim it truly values diversity today
Faculty members are more than service employees responsible for delivering course materials. These are mentors, researchers, and contributors to the academic environment that students depend on. These issues should matter to the entire university community. Relying on non-tenure-track faculty to sustain the university’s academic programs but providing them with fewer protections and opportunities creates an imbalance that deserves institutional scrutiny. This is a question of whose labor is valued and protected.

Notwithstanding Mayor Wu’s claims, the ‘State of the Schools’ in Boston is not good
THE REALITY OF public education in Boston is far from what Mayor Michelle Wu depicted in her recent State of the Schools address. Sprucing Up School Food With Gleaned Produce
Produce gleaned from local farms has been an ingredient staple at CommonWealth Kitchen (CWK) in Dorchester, Massachusetts since its founding days in 2009. A 2018 BioCycle article that featured CWK (scroll to end of post) reported that CWK processed over 2 tons of surplus Massachusetts apples purchased from the Boston Area Gleaners into 400 gallons of applesauce for Boston Children’s Hospital and the Boston Public Schools. That project helped lay the groundwork for CWK to collaborate with local gleaners to supply nutritious food to school districts in its region. Its facility in Dorchester houses a commissary kitchen that offers recipe development, ingredient preparation, cooking, packing and labeling and freezing if needed.
