Nighttime Blast Rocks Residents
Firefighters responded to a fire call in Medanales on May 7 after a big explosion was heard in the area around 10:30 p.m. Some residents said the blast was so strong that it shook the windows to their homes. Initially, first responders thought it was a house fire, but once they arrived at the scene on Paloma Drive and County Road 142, they realized there was a large fire behind a house and a tree was on fire. An older couple was out of the house but were having trouble breathing. According to E-911 logs, no one else was in the house or hurt. The cause of the fire appeared to be a propane tank that blew up. The fire was knocked down and though the fire marshal was called and scheduled to arrive on May 8, the call was canceled because only the shed was damaged.
