Kankakee Valley Superintendent Elected President of Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association
In Wheatfield, the Superintendent of the Kankakee Valley School Corporation is now president of the Indiana Small and Rural Schools Association (ISRSA). Don Street was elected during the organization’s annual meeting this month Tuesday October 6, 2026, and steps into the statewide leadership role after serving the previous two years as vice-president. Street, who’s led KV Schools since 2019, began his career in education as a teacher in 1991, and has a total of 13 years experience as a superintendent. In his new role, Street will lead organization meetings and guide critical policy discussions impacting more than 180 school corporations across Indiana. “While ISRSA members help identify key issues and priorities, the Board of Directors makes final decisions, with the President playing a central role in steering that decision-making process. Additionally, Street will work closely with and provide oversight to ISRSA Executive Director Christopher Lagoni, assisting in evaluating and identifying service-member partners that advance the organization’s mission,” a news release said.

East Central Indiana high school football sectional opener scores, updates
The IHSAA football postseason is here. Every team is now 0-0. The Star Press will have extended coverage of a matchup between Yorktown (5-4) and Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (2-7) in Class 4A Sectional 20. The Tigers are a defending 4A sectional champion, but the Knights are the reigning Class 3A runner-up and are now playing up two classes from their enrollment size. Luers' record might indicate a weaker-than-usual team, but the Knights play a very tough schedule and have been one of the state's most consistent programs over the last few years, particularly in the postseason. Yorktown, meanwhile, is very banged up and finished the regular season with back-to-back losses to Pendleton Heights and Mt. Vernon.
