11 South students gain recognition as semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship Program
19 Bloomington-area students were named semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Students enter the program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) during their junior year of high school. Students with the top scores in their state can become semifinalists or Commended Students (receive Letters of Commendation for outstanding academic performance but do not have high enough scores to continue in the competition.) Semifinalists can become finalists by submitting academic records, essays, and letters of recommendation. Of the roughly 1.2 million eligible students who take the PSAT/NMSQT nearly 50,000 applicants receive program recognition for being a high-scorer, and around 16,000 become semifinalists. UPDATE: Paris Cooperative High School cleared after bomb threat made
PARIS, Ill. (WCIA) — Paris Cooperative High School has been cleared after a bomb threat was made Thursday morning. School administrators provided an update on the bomb threat in the afternoon, saying the building was cleared at 2:30 p.m. The school building and its parking lots are now open for anyone who needs to retrieve personal items.

East Central Indiana IHSAA boys soccer sectionals live scoreboard
The IHSAA boys soccer postseason has arrived, and several teams from East Central Indiana are looking to make a run for a sectional championship. Each team learned its first-round sectional opponent on Sunday, Sept. 27 , with the IHSAA's blind draw sectional pairings show. Sectional tournaments will begin play on Tuesday, Oct. 6, and run through Saturday, Oct. 10. Regional semifinals will follow on Thursday, Oct. 15, with regional championships scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17. Semi-states will be played on Saturday, Oct. 24. The IHSAA boys and girls soccer state finals will be played at Michael Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on the campus of IU Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31. More: Late goal lifts Muncie Central boys soccer to win over Delta More: 2026 IHSAA boys soccer sectional brackets for East Central Indiana Three area teams are reigning sectional champions — Delta and New Castle in Class 2A and Muncie Burris in Class 1A, but Burris is now in Class 2A and will play in the same sectional as Delta and other local schools. The Eagles won their first since 2016, the Trojans won their first since 2019, and the Owls won their fourth in a row.
