Sewer overflow reaches Tar River after Rocky Mount manhole blocked with towels
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A sewer overflow spanning an hour and a half in Rocky Mount led to about 3,600 gallons of wastewater reaching the Tar River. On Friday, the city released more information on the overflow of the untreated wastewater, saying the issue stemmed from a manhole which was blocked by hand towels and other debris. The overflow took place behind a residential area near the corner of Leggett Road and Deerfield Lane, the city said.
