Drunk Driver Arrested After Injuring Passenger In Castaic Crash

A drunk driver from Lancaster was arrested after he sent his passenger to the hospital with major injuries Monday after he rear-ended a big rig in Castaic.

Around 10:30 p.m. Monday, first responders received reports of a crash on the northbound 5 Freeway, north of Lake Hughes Road in Castaic, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol ( CHP) Newhall Area Office .

“(The suspect) was driving an Isuzu pickup truck with a passenger in the front right seat,” Greengard said.  “(The suspect) failed to brake and rear-ended a big rig.”

The collision caused major injuries to the passenger within the Isuzu pickup truck, Greengard said.

Upon CHP arrival, Jesus Felix, 25, from Lancaster, was determined to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and was arrested for felony DUI , Greengard said.

Felix was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station.
