    Laporte girls maul Cass Lake-Bena 18-1 in softball action

    Laporte broke open the game with a 13-run third inning to beat host Cass Lake-Bena 18-1 in four innings April 23.

    Macey Morris and Kylee Reimer combined to no-hit the Panthers. Morris pitched the first two innings and struck out three. Reimer got the win in relief by allowing one run on three walks with four strike outs.

    Of the 14 hits Laporte finished with, Morris and Ila McDougle each had three. McDougle had an inside-the-park home run in the second and a triple in the third. Reimer and Tatiana Wright each had two hits, while Anna Katzenmeyer, Izabel Padgett, Tatiyana Weikle and Lilly Ewert each collected one.

    McDougle finished with three RBIs, with Morris, Reimer and Weikle having two each.

    This week Laporte host Red Lake and travel. to Pine River-Backus. Next week they host Cass Lake-Bena and are at Blackduck.

    Laporte splits DH

    After host Nevis won the first game of a double-header 2-1, Laporte erupted for five runs in the first inning on their way to an 8-1 win April 22.

    Morris, who narrowly lost the first game, surrendered one run on seven hits, striking out seven and walking none.

    Laporte finished with 12 hits with Wright collecting three hits and driving in three runs. Katzenmeyer, Hannah Backus, Reimer and Padgett each had two hits. Morris drove in two runs.

    The Wildcats also scored a run in the second on Backus’ RBI ground out.

    Wright’s single in the third made the score 7-0, with another run crossing home in the fifth.

    Nevis’ lone run came in the fourth on Ella DeWitt’s RBI double. DeWitt and Olivia Harris each had two hits.
