Two incidents of gunshots fired into vehicles and residences occurred in Cass County, Missouri this week. In the first incident, shots were fired into a vehicle occupied by a family member in Pleasant Hill. The family member was unharmed, and the suspect, Corey Russell, fled the scene in a spray-painted Ford Crown Victoria. In the second incident, multiple gunshots were fired into a residence in Peculiar. No one was injured, and two suspects were arrested.

Instruction: If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. A powerful thunderstorm is expected to affect areas of north central Cass and southeastern Jackson Counties until 5:45 PM CDT. At 5:09 PM CDT, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm over Lake Lotawana, moving southeast at a speed of 20 mph. The storm poses a hazard of winds exceeding 30 mph and half-inch hail. The information was sourced from radar data. The impact of this storm includes the potential for gusty winds that could cause damage to tree limbs and unsecured objects, as well as the possibility of minor damage to outdoor items. Locations such as Lee's Summit, Blue Springs, Pleasant Hill, Greenwood, Lake Lotawana, Lone Jack, Baldwin Park, and Tarsney Lakes will be affected. The storm is expected to produce hail with a maximum size of 0.50 inches and wind gusts of up to 30 mph.
Festival of Charity Features Recognitions, Entertainment, Food, and Fun
The third annual Festival of Charity, sponsored by West Central Missouri Community Action Agency, will be held Thursday, September 28, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Harrisonville at the Harrisonville Community Center, 2400 Jefferson Parkway. Highlighting the event is recognition of two outstanding Cass County organizations, Hope Haven and Heart-n-Hand Day Center. In addition, free entertainment, pulled pork concessions, a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle will be included in the evening’s activities.

The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of west central Missouri. The warning is in effect until 6:30 PM CDT. A severe thunderstorm was detected near Pleasant Hill, moving east at a speed of 20 mph. The storm is expected to bring hazards such as 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. Residents in the affected areas, including Harrisonville, Pleasant Hill, Lone Jack, Baldwin Park, and Strasburg, should be prepared for potential damage to vehicles, roofs, siding, and trees. The threat of hail is indicated by radar, with a maximum size of 1.00 inch, and the wind threat is indicated by radar, with a maximum wind gust of 60 mph.

Postponement of Bridge Demolition and Reconstruction on I-49 Outer Road in Cass County to 2024
The I-49 outer road (Peculiar Drive) in Cass County has reopened. Originally, the road was to be closed until Nov. 17, 2023, for bridge demolition and reconstruction. However, the closure and repair are now postponed to 2024. This change is due to a scheduling conflict with another local project, aiming to reduce road closures for residents.
