Local Freeport Resident Sentenced to 20 Years for Fentanyl Trafficking
A Freeport resident, Jonathon Hataway Jr., 28, has been given a 20-year prison sentence for fentanyl trafficking. The Walton County Sheriff’s Office VICE/Narcotics Unit had been investigating him. In September 2022, during a traffic stop, Hataway Jr. was found in possession of 57 grams of fentanyl and 27 grams of marijuana.
Police arrest man after law enforcement chase
A 26-year-old man from Chipley was arrested Wednesday, Dec. 6, after a law enforcement pursuit on a motorcycle that ended with a foot chase at a local business. Gabriel J Ragan-Reece was taken into custody after driving through a traffic stop while going over 70 miles per hour in a 35-mph construction zone on State Road 90. A Washington County Sheriff’s Office news release said Ragan-Reece also had a warrant out of Tennessee for a Violation of Probation for burglary and previous flee and elude charges.

Local Residents Invited to Attend Virtual Choctawhatchee Bay Estuary Program Meeting
The Choctawhatchee Bay Estuary Program’s Technical Advisory Committee will hold a public meeting on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 9:00 AM (CST). The meeting will be virtual, following Florida Statutes section 286.011. Representatives from the Okaloosa, Walton, Washington, and Holmes County Commissions will attend, but no voting will occur.
Holiday Schedule Changes for Walton County Waste Collection Services
Changes in solid waste collection services in Walton County have been announced due to the upcoming holidays and office closures. The Walton County Central Landfill and WM will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. This will cause a one-day delay in all waste collection services for that week.
