Fairlawn Roundabout Maple Leaf Sculpture continues taking shape in Carthage

CARTHAGE, Mo. (KOAM) — In March 2022, more than two years ago, Vision Carthage unveiled landscaping plans for the Fairlawn Roundabout to be completed in partnership  with the Carthage Parks and Recreation Department .

The non-profit organization commissioned local artist Rachel Wilson to create a focal piece for the roundabout that was new at the time.

The design was described as four maple leaves measuring 13’ x 13’ swirling in the wind.

Vision Carthage launched a campaign to raise funds of $28,000 to create the artwork. In August of 2023 the goal was met, “ made possible through generous donations from individuals and businesses .”

Now fast forward to today Rachel Wilson completed attaching the top leaf over the weekend.

The next steps she says “ include finalizing the base coat and then moving on to sanding and finishing the surface in preparation for painting .”

Vision Carthage shared images of the piece and teased everyone to “ stay tuned! ”
