Cheyenne Audubon hosts bird count event this Saturday
CHEYENNE – Cheyenne Audubon members invite local bird enthusiasts to help find as many birds as they can in the Cheyenne area this Saturday, starting at 6:30 a.m. The group will meet in the Lions Park parking lot between the Children’s Village and the big picnic shelter. Attendees are welcome to venture off on their own or stay with the group. To join the group later and get a location update, or to report bird sightings if you do not use eBird, call count leader Grant Frost at 307-343-2024. The tally party will be held May 19 at 5 p.m. at Perkins Restaurant on Dell Range Boulevard. For more information, visit the Cheyenne Audubon website, cheyenneaudubon.org.

Rooted in Cheyenne to conduct citywide tree planting event May 18
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Rooted in Cheyenne will be conducting its 15th neighborhood tree planting event on Saturday, May 18. Local green industry professionals, Rooted in Cheyenne board members, City Forestry staff and volunteers will be planting around 150 trees along Cheyenne’s streets, which is Rooted’s largest planting to date.
BOPU seeks to increase water and sewer rates again
CHEYENNE — The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities is seeking to raise rates for water and sewer services in 2025 by 10% and 8%, respectively. On average, this price hike would up monthly rates by between $2 and $9 for the typical residential consumer.

Cheyenne Fire Rescue requesting funding for new thermal cameras, overtime budget
CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Cheyenne Fire Rescue is requesting a total of $14,627,656 for the upcoming 2025 fiscal year. On Thursday, Cheyenne Fire Rescue Chief John Kopper discussed his department’s funding requests for the fiscal year 2025 budget. This year, the city has proposed a $147.6 million budget. Several city departments, including Community Recreation & Events, the Mayor’s Office, the Cheyenne Police Department and Cheyenne Fire Rescue, have been expressing their budget requests throughout the past week.
