Salina woman calls 911 four times while significant other batters her in truck
A 36-year-old Salina woman called the Salina Police Department four times while her significant other continuously battered her in a vehicle. At 2:34 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, SPD received a phone call where a woman told dispatchers her 36-year-old significant other struck her in the head and pulled her hair in the car after an argument began.
13-year-old allegedly tried to fatally smother her father twice in one night
SALINA, Kan. (TCD) -- A 13-year-old girl was taken into custody last weekend after her father reportedly caught her trying to kill him while he slept. According to KWCH-TV, early in the morning on Saturday, Nov. 25, Salina Police Department officers responded to a home on Village Lane for a report of an attempted murder. The 13-year-old reportedly entered her parents' room armed with a pillow and a knife, then allegedly tried to smother her father.
Salina Police Officers involved in 100 mph in town pursuit
On Wednesday at 2:48 a.m., a Salina Police Department officer witnessed a 2007 Grey Honda Odyssey run a red light at the intersection of Broadway Ave. and South Street. A vehicle pursuit ensued after police were unable to stop the vehicle. The Odyssey sped off traveling south on Broadway Avenue.
Stolen Liquor, Sawed-Off Shotgun Found in Home
An investigation into a liquor store burglary along with a tip from a citizen leads to the arrest of a couple of Salina men. Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan tells KSAL News that on Thursday deputies used a search warrant at a home in the 500 block of N. 12th Street and found not only stolen merchandise from Jenni’s Liquor in Brookville but a couple of altered firearms and drugs.
Donmyer – The Devil’s Washboard
Rumor has it that sometime during the 1950s near Gypsum Kansas, seven teenagers died while driving down a local road. This road is Donmyer Road, also known as “The Devil’s Washboard.” These seven teenagers wanted to go for a small joyride on the night of the day they died. Such events ALWAYS have to have some kind of dare, the one here was just how fast they could fly over the hills. The group made it over the first few hills with no problem, but on the third hill, they slammed right into the bank of the road, killing all seven passengers (“Kansas’ haunted places”).
Salina Man Tased Twice
Police made a drug related arrest after a Salina man tried to outrun an officer on his bike. Police Sergeant Kyle Tonniges tells KSAL News that 40-year-old Timothy Hurt was taken into custody after being tased twice early Thursday morning. Police report just after midnight on Thursday Hurt was riding a bicycle on the wrong side of the road in the 900 block of W. Pacific as a patrol unit approached.

Rent-A-Center laptop theft is this week's Crimestoppers
On Monday, Nov. 22, Officers with the Salina Police Department were dispatched to Rent One at 1123 W. Crawford St., Salina, in regards to a theft. An employee reported at approximately 5:30 p.m. a subject entered the store and asked to see an Apple Macbook. When presented with the computer, the suspect collected it and ran from the store. The computer is valued at approximately $1,800. The suspect was described as a white male, blonde hair, approximately 5’8’’ tall and weighing approximately 130 pounds.
Panther swimmers open season at Salina
The winter sports season is officially underway as basketball teams, wrestlers, and swimmers all saw action around Kansas. The Great Bend High School swim team headed to Salina where they scored 201 points to place fifth out of seven teams in action. Campus dominated the meet with 607 points, followed by Garden City with 428 points, and Hays with 316.5 points.
