La Costa Canyon Theatre supports Camp Kesem

    2024-02-07

Theatre entertains. Sometimes, at its greatest potential, theatre also heals. La Costa Canyon High School's Theatre Department recently closed “A Monster Calls,” a theatrical showcase of live music, shadow work, and incredible acting and dancing.

“A Monster Calls” told the tragically beautiful story of a boy named Conor and his challenging process of coming to terms with his mother’s struggle and eventual passing from cancer. The impact was palpable in the theater. For many in the audience, the show provided a cathartic opportunity to heal from the loss of their loved ones. However, the impact of "A Monster Calls" will continue onward into the summer because of the show’s philanthropic connection to Camp Kesem. LCC's Theatre Department donated a portion of its proceeds, totaling $2,087.64, to Camp Kesem.

Camp Kessem is a San Diego State University and UC San Diego-based philanthropy that provides free summer camp opportunities for kids who have parents with cancer. For those who are interested in supporting Camp Kesem, visit www.kesem.org .
