CORUNNA, MI – John Ronald Espie was 16 years old when he strangled a transportation officer and left him to die at the end of a dirt road in rural Michigan. Decades have passed since Espie, now 42, was convicted of killing the 71-year-old Nathan Nover and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. GRATIOT COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - A 33-year-old man died at the scene of a rollover crash in Gratiot County early Wednesday. The Gratiot County Sheriff's Office says Matthew Hoffer was driving a pickup truck north on Barry Road in Elba Township around 6:10 a.m., when he failed to negotiate a curve leading to Grenlund Road and went off the roadway.
