Bloomin’ Brands Inc. — the parent company of Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill, Carrabba's Italian Grill, and Flemings — is in expansion mode.
While it’s true that Bloomin’ Brands has shuttered 41 restaurant locations across its system of brands, the chain is still growing.
While the company hasn’t formally released a list, recent openings and local news reports around the country give us a good idea of where the Aussie-themed grill is blazing a trail.
Here are 10 cities getting a new Outback Steakhouse so you can finally stop wasting money on subpar steaks.
Silver Spring, Maryland, welcomed a 6,000-square-foot Outback Steakhouse restaurant on April 10. The official grand opening was at 4 p.m., following a soft opening the day before.
The new restaurant is located at 8661 Colesville Road. The dining room can hold approximately 187 guests and is open Mondays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays.
The location is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
Illinois welcomed its fifteenth Outback Steakhouse location in O’Fallon on April 2. The new store is at 1102 Central Park Drive, a stone’s throw from Texas Roadhouse and Cracker Barrel.
Eager diners have been waiting for three years. The area has been without an Outback Steakhouse since April 2021, when fire damage led to the permanent closure of its Swansea location.
3. Des Plaines, Iowa
The Iowa town will get a new Outback Steakhouse this year on the east side of Mannheim Road and Pratt Avenue, according to local community development planners.
This Aussie grill joins a list of 22 other restaurants opening in the area, including Five Guys, Raising Canes, Cafe La Cave, Taqueria Inzicto, Que Bola, Chipotle, Karavan, and First Watch.
A new Outback Restaurant opened in the Dayton area on March 13. The grand opening kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. The restauranteur gave away branded merchandise and free appetizer gift cards.
The Centerville Outback Restaurant is located at 5181 Cornerstone North Boulevard.
In a 4,694-square-foot space, it’s smaller than the average 6,000-square-foot Outback Steakhouse. However, this store better optimizes back-of-house space — and is the first location in the Dayton area sporting the brand’s modern redesign.
5. Bradenton, Florida
A new Outback Restaurant location is opening in the Bradenton area at
12245 State Road 70. It will join two other Bradenton stores located at 4402 West Cortez Road and 4510 State Road 64.
Local news sources report that another Bloomin’ Brands restaurant, Fleming’s Steakhouse, is also coming to Bradenton. The Bradenton Herald states this upscale eatery has earmarked a vacant Ruby Tuesday store at 8396 Tourist Center Drive.
However, there have been no public updates from the news outlet or Bloomin’ Brands since July 2023. Fingers crossed.
6. Birmingham, Alabama
Birmingham welcomed an Outback Steakhouse at 245 20th Street last March. The Midtown location occupies a 6,650-square-foot building across the street from Publix.
The ample space can seat nearly 200 guests and highlights the brand’s reimagined interior with Great Barrier Reef-themed murals and artwork.
Outback hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 27 at 10:30 a.m. Guests could win free branded merchandise and food, including up to a year of free Outback Steakhouse.
While not a 2024 opening, a new Outback Steakhouse came to Dawson late in 2023 and has been open for approximately five months.
The new location is at 14 Wallace Boulevard. It opened on December 12, with the formal ribbon-cutting ceremony on December 15. Ceremony guests enjoyed complimentary bold bites and prize giveaways.
This 4,694-square-foot location is smaller than most Outback Steakhouses, but it boasts an optimized layout with a large, centrally located bar and dining space for nearly 200 occupants.
8. Prosper, Texas
It’s official. Paperwork has been filed, and a new Outback Steakhouse is coming to Prosper, Texas, in September 2024. Construction is already underway. Come this fall, diners will be able to enjoy a Grilled Chicken on the Barbie at 840 South Preston Road.
9. Cape Coral, Florida
An Outback Steakhouse opened on February 6 in Cape Coral, Florida, at 2329 Skyline Boulevard. The Cape Coral location showcases the brand’s “new version” of Outback, with drop lighting, high- and low-top tables, and an industrial decor feel.
Since the opening, management says the store has done brisk business and is especially busy on weekends.
Outback Steakhouse opened a new location in northwest Charlotte on January 6 at 3812 Corning Place.
The Australian-themed steakhouse is one of several new restaurants at the city’s Riverbend Village shopping center. Other new eateries include Margaritas Mexican Kitchen, Dunkin’ Donuts, and Johnny Bronco’s Pizza.
Outback’s 4,694-square-foot building mimics the new store prototype: modern, industrial design in a smaller layout that is thoughtfully arranged to maximize seating capacity.
Bottom line
With a focus on growth through smaller, sleeker restaurants and a commitment to value, Outback Steakhouse is adapting to meet the needs of today's diners.
Whether you visit a new location or a familiar favorite, expect a more modern Outback with delicious food at a price that will help you keep more cash in your wallet .
