15-Year-Old Girl Shot Dead While Walking to McDonald’s After Movie, 16-Year-Old White Boy Arrested

Authorities in Florida have apprehended a 16-year-old suspect , Thomas Roy Stein, in connection with the tragic killing of 15-year-old Kayla Rincon-Miller.

Kayla was shot dead in an attempted robbery while walking to McDonald’s after watching a movie with friends on March 17 in Cape Coral.

Stein, who resides in North Fort Myers, has been charged with aggravated murder and appeared before a judge on March 20.

He was ordered to be held without bond and is scheduled for arraignment on April 8. While Stein is in custody , law enforcement continues to search for other suspects believed to be involved in the crime .

The devastating incident has left Kayla’s family and friends reeling from the loss . Bailee Powell, one of Kayla’s close friends, expressed her shock and grief , remembering Kayla as her best friend since childhood .

Kayla, described as outgoing and vibrant , was enjoying her spring break when the tragedy occurred.

The fatal encounter unfolded as Kayla and her friends were walking to McDonald’s, with an SUV abruptly stopping near them. Several suspects demanded money and valuables, leading to a scuffle during which Kayla was shot in the chest. Despite efforts by emergency crews, Kayla succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital .

Initially, law enforcement faced challenges in the investigation , but forensic teams later located the suspect vehicle—a silver Nissan Pathfinder—which was traced back to Stein’s mother . Stein was subsequently arrested .

While authorities work to identify and apprehend other suspects, the Cape Coral Police Department has appealed to the public for assistance and offered a $3, 000 reward for information leading to an arrest .

Kayla’s family has set up a GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses , with an outpouring of support raising over $17,000. Described as a source of joy and light in her family’s life , Kayla’s untimely death has left her loved ones devastated and mourning the loss of a beautiful soul.
