Canyon Independent School District names John Peterson as new Athletic Director

CANYON, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Canyon Independent School District has found its new Athletic Director as John Peterson is set to take over the position, with Canyon officials announcing the news on Monday evening.

Peterson replaced Toby Tucker who was recently named the newest superintendent for New Home Independent School District.

Before his newly appointed position as Athletic Director, Peterson also coached at Randall High School and has had numerous jobs within Canyon ISD since 2016.

Peterson spoke to MyHighPlains.com and expressed his urgency to start his new role.

“Just so excited to start and put my stamp on it,” Peterson said. “What Toby’s done for me has been absolutely fantastic, but I look to move the athletic department in the future and kind of put my spin on things. I’ve always had a dream of being athletic director and every step of my journey has been a part of it. Going back and getting my masters and working on the education side, then when I was at Randall working in the administration office and then of course working underneath Toby was huge for me.”
