    Stark County weekend fun guide: Andrew McCarthy in Canton and 2nd Friday in Louisville

    1. Andrew McCarthy coming to Canton

    Actor and travel writer Andrew McCarthy will be the Stark Library's featured author at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Canton Palace Theatre.

    Known for the '80s movies "Pretty in Pink," "St. Elmo's Fire" and "Weekend at Bernie's," McCarthy is an award-winning and bestselling travel writer, including his 2023 book, " Walking with Sam: A Father, A Son, and Five Hundred Miles Across Spain ." The book details the trek McCarthy took with his 19-year-old son across the famed El Camino de Santiago in Spain.

    "Pretty in Pink" also will be shown at the Palace Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Friday. General admission tickets cost $7 and can be purchased at https://cantonpalacetheatre.org/ . Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

    The plot of the 1986 movie centers on a girl (played by Molly Ringwald) who must choose between the affections of dating her childhood sweetheart or a rich but sensitive playboy.

    Free tickets for Saturday's event are no longer available, but VIP tickets can be purchased for $50 and $75 at https://www.etix.com/ticket/ . The $50 package includes preferred seating and a copy of "Walking With Sam"; $75 tickets include premium seating, a copy of the book, and a pass to meet McCarthy after the event.

    Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for McCarthy's presentation at the Palace Theatre, 605 Market Ave. N.

    2. Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago tribute at 2nd Friday in Louisville

    Louisville's 2nd Friday celebration will be 5-10 p.m. May 10 featuring a combined Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago tribute band.

    Artists, vendors, food and family activities also will be featured. The nationally-touring tribute band September in the Park will be performing the hit songs of both Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago.

    Earth, Wind & Fire songs include "September," "Let's Groove," "Boogie Wonderland" and "That's the Way of the World." Chicago's hits include "Saturday in the Park," "25 or 6 to 4," "Hard to Say I'm Sorry/Get Away" and "If You Leave Me Now."

    3. Canton Ballet fundraiser at Hall of Fame Village

    The Canton Ballet plans a fundraising event called Relevé on the Rooftop: An Evening with Altitude at 6 p.m. Thursday on the Sky Level Terrace at Hall of Fame Village in Canton.

    Ballet dancers will be performing. The event also will feature jazz music by the Theron Brown Trio, a raffle, hors d’oeuvres and desserts. Drinks also will be available.

    Artist Bruce Budd will be creating a live charcoal drawing to be auctioned. The fundraiser is presented by Employers Health.

    Tickets for the event can be purchased at https://cantonballet.com/giving/releve-on-the-rooftop/ . Standard tickets cost $75 each or $130 for a pair. VIP tickets have sold out.

    The Sky Level Terrace is at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium at the Hall of Fame Village, 1835 Harrison Ave. NW.

    4. Dry Bar Comedy Road Show in Canton

    The Dry Bar Comedy Roadshow will be featured at 7:30 p.m. Saturday on the Main Stage of the Cultural Center Theater in downtown Canton.

    Comedians will be Michael Cheselka , Ricky Glore and David Kaye . Krackpots Comedy Club in Massillon is presenting the clean comedy show.

    Tickets , $25 and $45, can be purchased through Krackpots at https://www.krackpotscomedy.com/ . Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the Cultural Center for the Arts , 1001 Market Ave. N.

    5. Eagles and Journey tribute show in Massillon

    A combined Eagles and Journey tribute band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lions Lincoln Theatre in downtown Massillon.

    Formed in Nashville in 2011, "Faithfully" will play covers of popular songs of all eras of the Eagles and Journey.
