CANTON ‒ Police are investigating a gunfight between two men that injured both of them in the 1200 block of Market Avenue North late Tuesday.

The men, ages 29 and 34, went to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital .

Police responded at 11:55 p.m. to the altercation in which each person suffered a gunshot wound.

"Nothing indicates anyone else was directly involved in this incident," Police Chief John Gabbard said in a prepared statement. "No arrests have been made at this time."

One man was taken to the hospital by a private vehicle and was in fair condition Wednesday.

The Canton Fire Department took the other man to the hospital from the intersection of Ninth Street and Market Avenue N in an ambulance. They report being called at midnight. They arrived to find a black BMW SUV on the curb. The man was in stable condition Wednesday.

A hospital spokesman said the emergency department was on soft lockdown for 28 minutes just after midnight Wednesday.

"It remained open to patients and ambulances the entire time. This is a standard protocol when hospitals receive patients with gunshot wounds," spokesman Joe Milicia wrote in an email.
