MEHS students aren’t scared of vaccines
The majority of Morton East students are getting the recommended vaccinations, survey says. Vaccines play an important role in protecting students from serious illnesses, but how many high school students are actually getting vaccinated? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), vaccines help the immune system learn how to defend itself against diseases without requiring a person to experience the full illness first (CDC). In a survey of 50 students, 33 (66%) reported receiving the flu vaccine, 42 (84%) said they had received the new COVID-19 vaccine, and 28 (56%) reported receiving the MCV4 vaccine. Students could report receiving more than one vaccine.
