FOND DU LAC - Steven Rosales of Campbellsport made his initial appearance on three counts of bestiality Wednesday morning in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court.

The 34-year-old man is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a dog between 2020 and Feb. 7, 2024, as well as taking a photo of the act and attempting to send it to someone.

The maximum penalty for each count of bestiality as well as photographing the sexual contact is six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The maximum penalty for trying to distribute it is three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Judge Douglas Edelstein set Rosales' cash bond at $100,000, with restrictions that he not possess or have contact with any animal and not possess any pornography.

According to the criminal complaint:

The man had text message conversations with a female in 2023 and 2024 regarding him engaging in sexual interactions with his dog.

It said the text chain was discovered while investigating a different matter. It doesn't specify was that investigation was, but the man was charged in Washington County earlier this month with sexual misconduct by school staff and two counts of misconduct in office.

Rosales, who joined the Kewaskum Police Department in 2017, became a school resource officer in 2022. WISN reports he was fired from the department.
