The month of June, heating up
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Evening thunderstorms will continue to push east out of Western Nebraska this evening, weakening as they advance and eventually dying out overnight. A few showers and thunderstorms could make it as far east as the Ord area, but should be non-severe. There is a marginal risk for an isolated stronger storm near the Imperial area late evening, but all activity will struggle to hold together by morning with only a slight chance for the Tri-Cities and surrounding areas. Morning lows statewide will be in the upper 50s to lowers 60s.
Suchsland Earns Kearney Junior Golf Classic Champion Title
Minden High School senior-to-be Kara Suchsland won the Kearney Junior Golf Classic held on June 3-4 at the Kearney Country Club. She shot a 122 for the 27- hole event that was shortened the second day due to weather. Her score was one stroke better than Lauren Lydiatt of Kearney.
Bond set at $10 million for Hastings man after police uncover 2,500 fentanyl pills
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Hastings man is in jail on $10 million bond after an arrest in a fentanyl distribution case. Court records show 30-year-old Carlos Lopez Montoya was arrested in Hall County Wednesday after an undercover controlled drug purchase. Police say Lopez Montoya had about 2,500 fentanyl pills. During a search of his car, officers also reportedly found a small baggie with cocaine.
Hastings man introduces new way of treating farms
SILVER CREEK, Neb. (KSNB) - There is a new service in Central Nebraska, and it can help get things done in a way that saves time and energy. The owner of this business is based in Hastings. Joshua Sage spent 15 years working as a commercial applicator, majority of his time spent with Cooperative Producers Inc. They often conduct business with Fairbank in Grand Island.
Grand Island, Hastings and areas east under Enhanced Risk for severe weather today
HASTINGS — Grand Island, Hastings and areas to the east of the Tri-Cities are now under an Enhanced Risk for severe weather this afternoon into the evening. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., upgraded several areas from northeastern to southeastern Nebraska, including Grand Island and Hastings to an Enhanced Risk, a three out of five.
5th ever Junior Legion home run hit at Duncan Field
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hickman junior legion player Max Mierau hit a home run over the right field wall at Duncan Field on Saturday. The grand slam is just the 187th ever homer at Duncan Field since its opening in 1940. It’s just the fifth ever hit by a Junior Legion player and also only the 10th ever grand slam.

Hundreds attend Hastings College football 11-man team camp
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - Hastings College football is in the middle of its annual 11-man team camp on campus. ”We’ll take a period the first night and work some drills with them running our Hastings techniques, so we get a chance to work with them a little bit,” Broncos’ coach Matt Franzen said. “Most of that time is for the teams to come on campus and, legally, within the rules, have a full-contact camp scrimmaging against other teams.”

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - We saw a bit of a cooler day today but pleasant none the less as we saw temperatures manage to make into the 80s. Clear and quiet conditions will continue into this evening and overnight with lows in the 50s. As we start off the day Friday, skies will be mainly clear for most of us. A warm front will move in from the west. This will produce increasing clouds as we head into the afternoon. It will also be the focal point for showers and storms to develop in the afternoon. Initially storms will begin to fire up over the Sandhills and north central areas of the state. Storms will then increase in number and strength as a cluster of storms moves southeast into central areas reaching the Tri-Cities in the early evening. There is a slight risk for a few storms to become severe. The time frame for the greatest threat of severe weather will be between 5pm and midnight tomorrow evening. The primary threats will be damaging wind gusts and large hail. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. It will be a toasty day for some as high temperatures soar into the Friday low 80s northeast to mid 90s southwest.
Hastings Municipal Airport to honor veterans during D-Day event
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Hastings Municipal Airport will host an Airport Open House on Saturday in honor of the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The event is free to attend and will include lots of vintage planes from the American Flight Museum in Topeka, Kan., including a T28, T6 and C47 on display, along with vintage military vehicles.
Battle of the Badges finishes in the Tri-Cities
HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) - The Battle of the Badges reached it’s final stage in Hastings on Thursday afternoon, and they looked to set a record. The Hastings Fire and Police departments worked to collect blood donations in conjunction with the American Red Cross, and for the last two years, Hastings has taken home the title for the city to get the most donations. In total, 136 units were collected.
