Brenna Huebner hit a three-run inside the park home run during a 10-run first inning as Waterloo surged past visiting Cambridge 13-3 in five innings in Capitol South softball on Friday, May 10.

Huebner, who was 3-for-4, also singled home a run in the first. After RBI hits by Alix McCarthy, Marissa Spoke and Briana Lauersdorf, Huebner's homer to center made it 9-1.

McCarthy added three hits and three RBIs for the Pirates (12-7, 7-1 in conference).

Waterloo starter Ally Schaumann allowed an earned run on five hits with four strikeouts in five frames to earn the decision.

For Cambridge, senior Saveea Freeland drove in senior Julia Schneider on an RBI double in the first.

Junior Brooke Stenklyft hit an RBI single in the fifth to score sophomore Marissa Schneider and sophomore Addison Bauler drove in sophomore Cally Travis on an RBI single later in the inning for the Blue Jays (5-8, 3-5 conference).

    Cambridge 6, Wisconsin Heights 5

Trailing Wisconsin Heights 5-1 entering the seventh inning, the Cambridge softball team needed the bottom of its lineup to spark a rally.

Cambridge’s six through nine hitters, which had been a combined 1x8 at the plate, found their swing, getting on base and knocking in runs as Cambridge scored five runs in a 6-5 walk-off win over the Vanguards on Wednesday, May 8.

Sophomores Cally Travis and Finley Tuscic both got on base with two singles to start the inning. Junior Brooke Stenklyft then hit an RBI single to score Travis for the first run and Tuscic scored on a bunt single from sophomore Addison Bauler.

With two runners on and nobody out, Cambridge turned the lineup back around to the top of the lineup and took advantage.

Lead-off hitter Julia Schneider then ripped a two-run triple to score Stenklyft and Bauler, tying the game at 5-5. The tie would not last for long as senior Saveea Freeland came up and hit a sacrifice fly to score Schneider for the 6-5 walk-off win.

Freeland also scored from second base in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly out from Megan Bernhardt.

Freeland also earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game with nine strikeouts. After giving up four runs in the first two innings, Freeland limited the Vanguards to just one run for the rest of the game.
