Carter Lund homers, Cambridge baseball wins against Waterloo

Senior Carter Lund pitched a complete game and recorded five RBIs in a Cambridge baseball 13-1 win over Waterloo on Saturday, April 27 at CHS.

Lund hit a two-run single in an 11-run bottom of the sixth inning for Cambridge, scoring senior Owen Bernhardt. Lund also hit a single in the fourth, scoring senior Marco Damiani.

Lund also hit a three-run homer in the sixth, scoring sophomore Cal Nottestad and Bernhardt. The home run enacted the 10-run mercy rule, giving Cambridge the win.

Also in the sixth inning, Bernhardt scored junior Clayton Stenjem, Damiani scored on an error, sophomore Jett Horton hit a single that scored Lund and senior Brayden Lund hit a two-run double to score senior Gavin Winslow and Horton.

Brayden Lund also scored on an error off the bat of Stenjem and Bernhardt hit an RBI single to score sophomore Will Reese.

On the mound, Carter Lund allowed just two hits in six innings of work. Carter Lund recorded two strikeouts in the win.

Cambridge is 7-4 on the season and 5-1 in the Capitol South Conference.

Cambridge 5, Wisconsin Heights 1

Junior Clayton Stenjem helped his own cause on Thursday, April 25.

Stenjem, who pitched a complete game, hit a go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving the Cambridge baseball team a 5-1 win over Wisconsin Heights.

After Wisconsin Heights scored a run off an error in the first, the Vanguards held the Blue Jays scoreless until the fifth.

On a 3-2 pitch with two outs in the fifth, Stenjem doubled to center field, scoring seniors Gavin Winslow and Devin Schuchart and giving Cambridge a 3-2 lead.

Later in the inning, senior Marco Damiani hit a two-run single, scoring Stenjem and junior Kiefer Parish. In the sixth, Parish hit an RBI single to score Winslow.

Stenjem recorded four strikeouts in the win. Damiani went 2x3 with a stolen base. Winslow led Cambridge with two stolen bases and two runs scored.
