CAMBRIDGE , Ohio ( WTRF ) — A mother has been arrested and her kids have been removed from her home after a 2-year-old child was exposed to amphetamines and overdosed.

The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office said it was notified from social workers at Nationwide Children’s Hospital that they were treating a 2-year-old child for exposure to and overdose from amphetamines.

Deputies said the child was taken to OhioHealth Southeastern Medical Center in Cambridge by the child’s mother shortly before 11 p.m. Once stabilized, the child was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus by a medical helicopter.

According to deputies, no one was with the child at the hospital and the social worker could not make contact with the mother while the child was in “critical condition.”

Deputies then began to check multiple residences and eventually found the mother. Deputies said the mother allowed deputies to enter the home and speak with her and they discovered that she had three other small children in the homes, a 13-month-old and 1-month-old twins.

At the home, deputies summoned case workers from children services to the residence due to the conditions at the home and had all three children removed from the home.

The mother and her boyfriend were asked to come to the sheriff’s office to be interviewed. Following the interview and processing evidence, the mother was arrested.
