CAMBRIDGE — A Cambridge man was arrested on 38 charges on April 29, including handgun possession charges, controlled dangerous substances possession, driving on a suspended license and attempting to elude police.

According to a news release from the Cambridge Police Department, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of Rigby Avenue and Camelia Street a little before 11 p.m. that night. The traffic stop was for a motorized scooter that was being operated in an “erratic manner” and did not have any taillights, they said.

Police said Chavonne Corbin-Stanley, 34, failed to stop and continued driving in a “reckless manner.” In the 500 block of Saunders Avenue, police said Corbin-Stanley lost control of the scooter, jumped off of it and began to flee on foot. Police said officers observed Corbin-Stanley reach into the waistband area of his clothes.

Corbin-Stanley, was apprehended in the 800 block of Park Lane, according to the news release. Police said an empty holster for a handgun and a plastic bag containing crack cocaine was found on his person.

During a search of the area, a Talbot County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit — requested to assist with the search — found a loaded Canik TP9 9mm handgun containing 16 rounds, police said.

Upon arrest, Corbin-Stanley was found to have two active warrants — one from the Anne Arundel County District Court for failure to appear and one from the Talbot County Circuit Court for failure to appear — which were served to him, police said.

Corbin-Stanley was brought to CPD for processing and an initial appearance in front of a court commissioner before getting turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond.

In the news release, CPD thanked the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Unit for the assistance.
