A Cambridge Public Schools teacher accused of raping two girls a decade ago will appear in court next week, officials announced.

Jorge A. Bonilla, a elementary school teacher at Amigos School, was indicted by a Middlesex Grand Jury last month on nine charges relating to raping two girls in 2013 and 2014, the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office said.

Bonilla, who lives on Putnam Street in Cambridge, is facing charges including aggravated rape of a child, rape of a child with force, and indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14. The DA said the two girls were known to Bonilla at the time of the alleged assaults.

Indictments against Bonilla were returned by the grand jury in February, and Cambridge Public Schools said students and families were notified Thursday.

CPS spokesperson Sujata Wycoff said that Bonilla was not a school employee at the time of the alleged assaults, and he is currently on administrative leave.

The Amigos School is a bilingual PK-8 school on Upton Street. There are more than 400 students enrolled.

Wycoff said as part of their hiring process, employees are subject to personal and professional background checks.

“Our social workers and counseling team have mobilized to support any student, staff member, or family for as long as needed,” Wycoff said.

Bonilla will appear in Middlesex Superior Court April 2 for his arraignment.
