A puppy rescued in Goldsboro earlier this week passed away Thursday. Kristin Lassiter found the dog, named Samantha, abandoned on the side of Ferry Bridge Road on Tuesday. Wednesday Evening Shooting Leaves One Injured, One Dead
On Wednesday at approximately 5:47 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a report of shots being fired in the 1600 block of S. John Street. Upon arriving in the area, officers located a Tysher Davis, 18, Goldsboro, swith an apparent gunshot wound and rendered aid. EMS responded and transported the victim to UNC Health Wayne for treatment. Davis was transferred to ECU Health in Greenville for further treatment and is currently in fair condition.
Mount Olive’s proposed budget calls for 8-cent tax hike, higher water, sewer and garbage rates
Mount Olive’s property tax rate would increase by 8 cents per $100 of value should the town board adopt its draft budget for fiscal year 2024-25 as currently written. The $6.5 million budget proposal, that was unveiled at the board’s June 3 session, also includes a 3 percent hike in water/sewer rates — the second increase in as many years — and a $3 increase ($19 to $22) in garbage rates.
