George West Cemetery Association to hold clean-up day, gives reminder about rules
The George West Cemetery Association will have a cemetery-wide clean up on Friday May 24 and Saturday May 25 (if needed). Helpers will be available to pick up anything that does not follow the rules as printed on the sign inside the cemetery or below. Families are asked to clean their loved ones graves, but if they are not cleaned, dated flowers, glass vases, solar lights, easels, tin cans or broken plastic containers will be removed. Association members will attempt to put cinder blocks at graves that only have markers.
Members of the Three Rivers City Council begin new terms
The Three Rivers City Council met on May 13 to canvass and declare results of the General Election. After final tabulations were shared for Alderpersons Place 1, 2, and 3, Patsy Roberts, David Gregory, and Rebecca Lopez were sworn in by Judge James Liska for two-year terms. The council reappointed Patsy Roberts as Mayor Pro Tem.
George West ISD adds new faces to school board
The George West School Board met on May 13 and canvassed the results of the May 4 election. David Minter in District 3 and Nate Mauer in District 5 were declared winners and were sworn in by Board President Scott Carroll. Elections were held for board officers and Carroll will continue serving as board president, Booky Goebel will be the vice president and Maggie Mimmick will serve as secretary.

Storms wreak havoc in Atascosa County
A weather system that rolled into Atascosa County on Monday at around 11:30 a.m. caused significant damage as high winds, driving rain and hail plummeted parts of the county. Debris was strewn all over Poteet as trees were uprooted while roofs and fences were damaged for most of the city.
