Shemwell murder trial set for June 3
The trial of Cylar L. Shemwell, on charges of being part of a January 2019 shooting on Audubon Avenue that killed three men and seriously injured a woman, will go forward. Shemwell, 37, of the 1600 block of Wisteria Gardens, was charged with three counts of murder and one count of first-degree assault in the deaths of Jay Michael Sowders, Christopher Carie and Robert D. Smith on Jan. 17. 2019. Carmen Vanegas was also shot during the incident, but survived.
DCHS class of 2024 receives dilplomas
The 350 members of Daviess County High School’s class of 2024 walked Reid Stadium one last time Wednesday night to receive their diplomas and stride into the future. The class, who were freshmen in the fall of 2020, began high school during the COVID-19 pandemic. That period was full of stops and starts, as schools adapted quickly from in-person to online learning and back again as the pandemic raged.
Local food stand to host fundraiser for high school baseball coach

One killed in wreck on New Hartford Road
One person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision Friday night in the 3400 block of New Hartford Road. Two other people were seriously injured in the wreck, with one having been life-flighted and the other taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.
