BYRON, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Byron’s baseball team took a big step toward unseating Dixon as the Big Northern Conference Champion Thursday. The Tigers defeated the Dukes 10-0 in five innings in Byron.

The Tigers jumped on the Dukes for seven runs in the bottom of the second inning when they batted around. Braylon Kilduff pitched five efficient shutout innings for the Tigers. Ashton Henkel made a sparkling diving catch in left field to end a bases loaded threat by Dixon in the top of the fifth. Henkel ended the game by driving a pitch to deep center off the top of the glove of the center fielder to drive in two runs in the bottom of the fifth bringing the ten-run rule into effect.

Byron improves to 21-3-1 overall and 12-1 in the BNC. Dixon is now 15-5, 11-3. Byron has five conference games remaining including a rematch at Dixon next Monday. For highlights of this game, watch the media player above.
