Corbin Man Arrested on Felony Assault and Other Charges
The Corbin Police Department says Patrolman Jarrett Carr and Sgt. Jeff Hill responded to reports of a domestic assault at a local apartment complex in Corbin. Officers were greeted at the door by a bloody victim. During the investigation, officers determined the victim was assaulted by 44-year-old Kevin Barnett with children nearby. Barnett was arrested and charged with burglary, assault (domestic violence), menacing, endangering the welfare of a minor, terroristic threatening, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. He was lodged in the Whitley County Detention Center.

Two incidents occurred in Tavares, Florida this week. In the first incident, Tavares Police K9 Bruce assisted in the arrest of a suspect involved in drug trafficking. The K9 unit detected a deadly drug during a routine traffic stop. In the second incident, a man from Tavares, Florida was arrested during an investigation of an assault in progress complaint in Laurel County, Kentucky. The suspect allegedly struck another individual in the face.

The Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London, which provides coverage for Clay, Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne and Whitley counties, has announced they will be conducting periodic traffic safety checkpoints at various locations. The checkpoints are an effort to enforce traffic laws, especially seatbelt adherence, sobriety, insurance and registration violations. Christmas on Main Parade to be held this Friday in London
The region’s largest and brightest nighttime Christmas parade will roll through downtown London with Santa Claus and his sleigh this Friday night during the annual Randy Smith Christmas on Main parade. According to Southern Living Magazine, London is ranked second as the best Christmas town in Kentucky to visit this holiday season. With a giant Christmas tree at Town Center as the centerpiece and lights strung throughout downtown, people who attend Christmas on Main will see why. The festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with carols sung by local school and church groups in front of the Laurel County Courthouse. The Children’s Christmas Book Walk also starts at 5:30 p.m. at 14 downtown locations, and will continue every half hour until the parade at 7 p.m. The theme this year is “Candy Canes & Carols.” After the parade, the annual lighting of the Christmas tree will be held at the London-Laurel County Farmers Market. Kids will be able to take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus and other characters. There will be hot chocolate and other items given away. The forecasts for Friday vary, but organizers remain hopeful that any rain will subside earlier in the afternoon. If the forecast worsens, a rain date will be announced, but that call will not be made until late Thursday or early Friday.
