February Road Projects
A few road projects will impact traffic in the Mother Lode this week, here are the Caltrans projects scheduled this week. On Highway 12 road striping will continue to impact one of the two lanes with a moving closure from the San Joaquin/Calaveras County line to Highway 49. The work is planned Tuesday, February 20, through Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. with expected 5-minute delays to traffic in the area.

Much of Northern California is under an "Areal Flood Watch," as of Tuesday morning. You may have seen the word "areal" and wondered whether it was a typo. Nope. That type of alert is generated by the National Weather Service office in Sacramento when new rain or runoff has the potential to cause localized flooding somewhere in a broad area. This alert is also referred to as simply a "Flood Watch."
Monday Power Outages And Traffic Hazards
Sonora, CA — Heavy rain fell overnight, but the power outages are relatively mild in the region so far on Monday morning. There are outages impacting just a handful of PG&E customers around Rancho Calaveras and West Point, and the largest outage is near the Highway 4 Alpine and Calaveras border where 144 customers lost power at around 4:40 am. The cause of that outage is under investigation and there is not an estimated restoration time.

A cool and wet system off the coast will continue to drive widespread showers, pockets of heavier rain and snow, the thread of thunderstorms and gusty south winds across northern California Tuesday. A Flood Watch is in effect across the valley, foothills, Northern Mountains, and portions of the Sierra through 4am Wednesday. Flood Warnings are also in effect along portions of the Sacramento River in Tehama, Butte and Glenn Counties. Winter Storm Warnings are set to stay in effect in northern Trinity County through 3pm Tuesday, and through 10am Wednesday in the Sierra. We have cloudy skies and scattered showers with pockets of heavier rain brushing north across our region to start the day. Temperatures are starting out in the upper 40's to lower 50's in the valley, 30's to 40's in the foothills, and 30's in our mountain zones Tuesday morning. Winds out of the southeast to 25mph, and gusts up to 35mph will be possible early to mid day today. Winds will be up to around 15mph out of the southeast this afternoon. High temperatures are projected to climb into the mid 50's to lower 60's in the valley, lower 40's to lower 50's in the foothills, and 30's to upper 40's in our mountain zones Tuesday afternoon. Scattered showers will linger this evening, and pockets of heavier rain are projected to fall later tonight.
