    Burr Oak softball wins as host of invitational, Three Rivers goes 3-0 in U.P.

    BURR OAK — The Burr Oak softball team secured three victories on Saturday.

    It gave them the win as host of their own invitational, beating Cassopolis twice (6-2 and 10-8) and North Adams 15-0.

    WINNER: Brooklynn Root voted Athlete of the Week

    In the first game, Burr Oak got 11 strikeouts from Brooklynn Root to win. She had two hits in the game as well while Braylyn Hernandez added two hits and drove in a pair. Amy Ledyard finished with three RBIs and a base hit. Inez Ultz, Makaila Whittington and Payten Hudson each had one hit while Elaine Holtom registered two hits.

    Against North Adams, Root struck out six to get the victory. Hudson recorded the only official hit, Burr Oak drew nine walks.

    The Bobcats scored two runs in the bottom of the 11th to beat Cassopolis. Holtom drove in Whittington and Hudson on that final play to win. Both Lilly Holtom and Elaine Holtom finished with three hits and two RBIs and Root drove in two with two hits. Hudon recorded two hits and drove in one. Ultz and Hernandez each finished with a hit and one RBI.

    Root pitched all 11 innings, striking out 15.

    Three Rivers 3-0 in U.P.

    Three Rivers traveled to play in the Escanaba Tournament this past weekend, securing three wins.

    The Cats beat Bark River-Harris 27-0, Escanaba 5-4 and Negaunee 7-1.

    Ava Forman belted two homers against Bark River-Harris and finished with four hits and six runs driven in. A Barnes, Jennaya Decker and Kendall Penny each blasted homers in the game as well. Peyton Ware struck out eight in three innings, not allowing a hit or walk.

    FAST: Sturgis girls track sets school mark in 800 relay

    Against Escanaba, Three Rivers scored twice in the seventh to win. Forman had two hits and one RBI, Decker drove in two with a base hit. Dani Glass registered an RBI single as well. Decker got the win, striking out six.

    Decker also got the win against Negaunee, striking out seven. Glass drove in three with a triple, Ware finished with two hits and an RBI. Lanie Glass, Forman, London Hoffmaster and Penny all recorded a hit in the game.

    Bronson at Northview Invite

    The Bronson softball team played at the Northview Invitational held on Saturday, finishing with a record of 3-1 on the day.

    "We had a lot to prove to ourselves today and I feel we did that," coach Becky Gray said of her team. "It was a long day with good competition and we had a good day of hitting. We still have things to work on but we are heading in the right direction."

    Bronson picked up wins over Catholic Central 11-0, Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills 16-3 and Cedar Springs 8-2. The lone loss came to host Northview at 8-4.

    Ashlynn Harris went 1-1 inside the circle. She struck out 13 hitters in those two games. Mya Webb pitched Bronson to victories over Kenowa Hills and Cedar Springs, striking out nine.

    Harris, Ciara Blankenship, Lydia Wells, Kailynne Scare and Webb each had two hits against Catholic Central, driving in a combined five runs. Brealyn Lasky, Roni Bir and Braelynn Gimenez each had a hit as well.

    Against Kenowa Hilla, Wells drove in two on three total hits. Harris and Blankenship each had two hits and two RBIs, Delanee Carpenter drove in two runs on a pair of hits. Gimenez and Scare each registered two hits while Lasky and Webb had RBI base hits.

    Harris had three hits against Northview, finishing with a single, double and triple. Blankenship and Bir each secured a hit in the loss.

    Scare led the offense against Cedar Springs with three hits. Lasky doubled twice while Gimenez, Bir and Carpenter each had two hits. Blankenship, Wells, Webb and Ryleigh Fee also registered a hit.

    Baseball

    Bronson played to a split with Buchanan on Saturday. The Vikings won the second game, 6-5, after dropping an 8-5 decision in the first. Warner Wotta and Landyn Watkins each registered two hits in the first game for the Vikings. James Jourdan and Spencer Losinksi each had an RBI hit.

    Bronson scored four time sin the second inning in the late game, pushing them ahead for good. Jourdan and Dawson Soergel each had two hits in the contest. Matt Arver had a base hit that drove in one.

    Owen Kimmons pitched all seven innings to get the win. He struck out two.

    Colon beat Tekonsha 4-3 in prep baseball action. Maverick Downs tossed all six innings for the Magi, striking out seven batters.

    At the plate, Ayden Delp connected for two doubles and drove in a pair of runs. Dominick Mock recorded two hits as well. Downs, Dane Borgert and Kaleb Bissett each registered a hit as well. Kaleb Thaxton drove in a run.

    On Thursday, Colon beat Burr Oak 17-7. Mock picked up the win here with three strikeouts. Carter Person, Borgert and Delp also pitched, striking out a combined seven.

    Bissett had three hits and three RBIs, both Borgert and Thaxton registered two hits and one run driven in. Downs connected for a hit while Person and Gabe Terry each recorded an RBI.

    Kayden Cole had three hits for Burr Oak, Austin Cole added two as well. They each drove in one. Landon West and Chance Root also recorded a hit.

    White Pigeon beat Bloomingdale on Thursday 6-5. The second game did not start because of weather. Carter Becraft plated the game-winning run for the Chiefs with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh.

    Dace Kochel collected a pair of hits for the Chiefs. Chris Temple drove in two with a base hit as well. Clayton Grandstaff and Aiden Jackson both singled.

    Bristol Ultz and Kochel combined to strike out six.
