You may have noticed, if you've braved Church Street lately, that there have been lots of comings and goings of businesses in the past year or so. Kara Alnasrawi, Burlington's director of business and workforce development and Church Street Marketplace, keeps track of such things and provided us with the lists below.
Alnasrawi notes that Burlington does not keep an official business directory, so her lists are compiled from businesses that self-report, media reports and communications with commercial brokers. She further notes that Slate, which is on the closure list, needed a larger location to sell more furniture and is currently searching for a suitable space. It won't be on Church Street as there are no spaces that are large enough.
The closing of Walgreens, Alnasrawi reminds us, was just one of many stores the pharmacy closed nationwide. CNN reported last June Walgreens was closing 150 stores in the United States. Expressions and Jess, both also on the closure list, were owned by the Pomerleau family, Alnasrawi said, who decided not to continue running them.
Alnasrawi was unable to provide a vacancy rate for Church Street in time for this story, but said she'll have one soon, once she determines whether a couple of letters of intent she has actually turn into leases.
