On Feb. 22, deputies stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 50, just east of Saffordville, nine miles east of Strong City, according to a media release. The investigation led to a search.
Two arrested after alleged pursuit from Chase County to east Emporia
Two suspects are in custody after an alleged high-speed pursuit from Chase county into eastern Emporia on Tuesday. Initial details are currently pending. Lyon County Sheriff Jeff Cope says a vehicle used Sixth Avenue at a high rate of speed, allegedly hitting a fire hydrant and sideswiping a trailer home, before apparently turning north on Lakeview. The suspects allegedly ditched the vehicle and fled north into a residential neighborhood. They were captured about an hour after the alleged incident developed.

Outdoor burning will be banned once again for a large portion of the KVOE listening area Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning encompassing Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties from 10 am to 8 pm Thursday.
